The work series 'Abetare' is based on the tearing down of his own old Primary School 'Shote Galica' in Runik, Kosovo, to make place for a new building. He filmed the deconstruction and found also the old school tables as usual covered with drawings and carvings by the pupils.
'Eyelashes' and 'I Love Mou' are examples of these anonymous drawings, transferred into a larger metal sculpture and using the help tradional crafts-men in the region. All the pieces from the 'Abetare' series are also a hint at the real creativity that takes place unnoticed and not really supported in the boring moments of school lessons.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York had invited Petrit Halilaj for the Roof Garden Commission in 2024. On the Roof Garden of this important institution, the artist presented large sculptures based on hisn 'Abetare' research.
