Romania suffered from severe shortages in the 1980’s due to the austerity policy. It was almost impossible to find anything in the shops, especially meet was only available sometimes. These shortages led to a humorous attitude amongst people to cope with the situation. Rare products had different ‘nicknames’ pork heads were called ‘calculators’, chicken claws 'cutlery' and the pork feet 'adidas'. The sculpture ‘Original Adidas’ is a reminiscence to these times and hint to the present, with consumerism and the focus on brands are at a peak.
