BC21 Art Award an Nilbar Güreş

Nilbar Güreş receives the BC 21 BostonConsulting & BelvedereContemporary Art Award 2015. The BC21 Art Award of 20.000 Euros is awarded every 2 years. Nilbar Güreş, Andreas Duscha, Sarah Pichlkostner and Hannes Zebedin were this years nominies.

The jury statement says: After the consultation the jury unanimously voted for Nilbar Güreş: The jury was impressed by the artists singular artistic language in which she deals with humour, politics, identity, gender and sexuality in a broad variety of media. The collages, photographs, drawings and objects of the artists testify a playful intelligence confronting normative conventions and stereiotyped representationsThe collages, photographs, drawings and objects the artist testify a playful intelligence with which she confronts and subverts normative conventions and stereotyped representations."
This year’s nomination jury comprised Cathérine Hug (curator, Kunsthaus Zürich), Sophie Goltz (city curator Hamburg), Joshua Simon (Director of MoBY – Museums of Bat Yam, Tel Aviv), and Francesco Stocchi (curator, Bojmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam).

The BC21 Art Award was launched in 2007 by the BCG and the Belvedere and is awarded to artists under the age of 40 living and working in Austria. Previous prizewinners were Anna Witt (2013), Lucie Stahl (2011), Nadim Vardag (2009), and Constantin Luser (2007). This year’s nomination jury comprised Cathérine Hug (curator, Kunsthaus Zürich), Sophie Goltz (city curator Hamburg), Joshua Simon (Director of MoBY – Museums of Bat Yam, Tel Aviv), and Francesco Stocchi (curator, Bojmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam) who all independently decided on one artist.

The exhibition of the four artists can be seen at 21er Haus in Vienna.
