The exhibition 'My Body is a Battlefield' at Francisco Carolinum in Linz includes works from a time span of over 10 years. The focus of the work is not the female body as an abstracted formula, but concretely the body of the artist Maria Kulikovska, born in Ukraine in 1988. Her own body is the battlefield in which the often ambivalent emotions emerge and wrestle with each other. In this body personal experiences, disappointments and disputes carry out their inner struggles. They struggle over whether despair and fear, or confidence and courage are the stronger motives.
The exhibition wants to give an insight into an artistic life understood as an action that tries to reconcile again and again the moral and human catastrophe of the present with the respect for the richness and the mystery of life.
