Turkish artist Nil Yalter, who was born in Cairo in 1938 and moved to Paris in 1965, receives the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement of 60th International Art Exhibition of Biennale di Venezia. Anna Maria Maiolino, born in Scalea, Italy, in 1942, who emigrated to Caracas, Venezuela, in 1954 and to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1960, is also honoured with a Golden Lion.
The 60th International Art Exhibition of the Biennale di Venezia is curated by Adriano Pedrosa and, with its title "Stranieri Ovunque - Foreigners Everywhere", refers to artists who have travelled and migrated in both directions between North and South, between Europe and all parts of the world.
