Musée d'art Joliette presents 'Cripto Sirenas', the first exhibition by Anna Ehrenstein and Cripto Sirenas in North-America.
Exhibition curator Didier Morelli:
"Founded by Anna Ehrenstein, Alexa Evangelista, Sunny Pfalzer, and Lucy Tomasino, Cripto Sirenas is a temporary collective dedicated to what they describe as a process of creating science-fiction and multimedia universes that aim to speculate on techno-solutionism, totalitarian algorithms, and the effects of these emerging realities on our bodies and environments.
Rooted in a hydrofeminist vision of the world, their work focuses on water, fluidity, and the drainage basin, understood as an embodied vector of resistance against contemporary and future systems of oppression and exploitation that impose rigidity, binarity, and categorization.
Set within fabulous and dreamlike environments—from public urban monuments to isolated aquatic natural landscapes—the project reveals how economic and extractivist models are grounded in forms of cryptocolonialism from the Old World, which threaten to haunt the worlds to come."
