Memories of the time before the invasion meet the reality of war in Kateryna Lysovenko’s paintings. Through personal and symbolic imagery, she explores how war transforms people, relationships, and their sense of hope for the future.
Kateryna Lysovenko, born in 1989 and raised in Odesa, is a Ukrainian artist based in Vienna. Her paintings take Russia’s war against Ukraine as their point of departure, exploring how the experiences of war affect people and relationships for generations to come. In her works, motifs from the current war encounter memories of the time before the invasion, alongside references to art history, mythology, and classical painting. Through these layers, she examines how war shapes individuals and societies far beyond the battlefield itself.
In 2025, Kateryna Lysovenko was awarded the prestigious Münze Österreich Price for outstanding emerging artists. Her work is also being presented in connection with the Venice Biennale, and she is participating in this year’s Manifesta. The exhibition 'Allt är möjligtis' is her largest to date and her first solo exhibition in Scandinavia.
