Curators Talk with Britta Peters, MNAC

Britta Peters, curator of Skulptur Projekte Münster 2017 together with Marianne Wagner and Kasper König, will give an insight into the history of Skulptur Projekte Münster and an outlook to the next edition in 2017. The talk is part of the accompanying program of the exhibition ‘Shape of Time – Future of Nostalgia. Works of the Art Collection Telekom’ at the MNAC in Bucharest.

Since their first edition in 1977, the Skulptur Projekte Münster have developed to become one of the world’s most important exhibitions of art in the public space. The generous ten-year cycle makes the Skulptur Projekte not only a special event, but also a venue at which the contemporaneity of public art is examined above and beyond short-lived fashions and trends. In the summer of 2017, for the fifth time, international artists are invited to realize a site-specific project at a location of their choice within the city of Münster. The spectrum ranges from sculptural approaches to temporary installations and performances with which art inscribes itself in the structural, historical and societal contexts of the city. At the same time, many of the projects point beyond the specific place and negotiate current social and urban themes. A special focus of the Skulptur Projekte 2017 is the relationship between public and private space in times of increasing digitalization.

Britta Peters (b. 1967) works as an art critic and free-lance curator. From 2008 to 2011 she was the director of Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof in Hamburg. In 2012 she curated the exhibition 'Demonstrationen. Vom Werden normativer Ordnungen' at Kunstverein Frankfurt, followed in 2014 by the exhibition project 'Illness as Metaphor: Madness in the Garden of the Species' at various venues in Hamburg.
