The Present in Drag: Notes on the 9th Berlin Biennale.
Solomon Chase and David Toro, members of DIS collective, offer an insight into the 9th Berlin Biennale. DIS is a collaborative project amongst artists, designers, stylists and writers, primarily led by Lauren Boyle, Solomon Chase, Marco Roso and David Toro, who were responsible of curating the 9th Berlin Biennale in 2016. Evolving from an online, interactive magazine, DIS provides a horizontal exploration of fashion, art, culture and the collaborative nature of the Internet.
In this age of total speculation, you can’t even see a present from which to imagine a future. The artists and collaborators that have been mobilized for the 9th Berlin Biennale are not fatigued but energized by this uncertainty. In this climate anyone can begin to build an alternative present, reconfigure failed narratives, and decipher meaning from continual flux. Instead of unmasking the present, the 9th Berlin Biennale looks at its many faces and incarnations, the dizzying paradoxes of a future-turned-now.
