This year, Kateřina Havrlant’s private collection of contemporary art — the Havrlant Art Collection — celebrates its tenth anniversary with an exhibition at the Mánes Exhibition Hall as part of Prague Art Week25.
Until October 6, a selection of key works acquired by the collection in recent years will be on view — including paintings, spatial installations, and video works by Czech and international artists such as Anna Uddenberg, Zsófia Keresztes, Pakui Hardware, Klára Hosnedlová, Igor Hosnedl, and Anna Hulačová. Many of these works are being shown publicly in Prague for the first time.
Over the past decade, the Havrlant Art Collection has evolved into one of the most significant collections of contemporary art in the Czech Republic. Since its founding in 2015, the collection has focused on the long-term support of emerging artists. The exhibition has been curated by Ján Gajdušek, who has managed the collection for many years.
Among the approximately 160 works in the collection are pieces by artists also represented in the Art Collection Telekom.
"The aim of the exhibition is to look back at ten years of collecting activity during which we have attempted to focus on the youngest generation of artists from central Europe. As the venue for this show we have chosen the Mánes Exhibition Hall, which historically was a space mainly for exhibitions highlighting the current directions of Czech and foreign artists. We believe that after a long period in which exhibitions of this type were absent from Mánes, visitors will now once again be able to see the kind of artistic event for which the gallery was originally intended. At the same time, our motivation is to inspire budding collectors to take an interest in contemporary art, " says Kateřina Havrlant.
