Since the first decade of the 21st century, Ukrainian artist Mykola Ridnyi, a native of Kharkiv, has been reflecting on issues of power, abuse of power, and cultural differences between Russia and Ukraine in his works. He has been dealing with the theme of war since 2014 since the annexation of Crimea and the military clashes in the Donbass.
Like many artists, he fled from Kyiv to Lviv.
