In 2012, the Ukrainian artist Lada Nakonechna began a series of drawings using found motifs, photos, and postcards from Kyiv as source material. She transforms these colorful and kitschy city views into dense and intense drawings that have often also addressed the Russian imperialist claim to Ukraine and the denial of Ukrainian identity. Her mobile-phone clip commentary on Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine is based on "Popular View: Looking through the lilac in the Kyiv Botanical Garden, towards the Dnipro River".
