Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi, born 1961 in Sibiu, is awarded the first Rosa-Schapire-Art Prize, donated by the friends of Hamburger Kunsthalle. The Prize is dedicated to artists carrying on the unconventional spirit of art historian Rosa Schapire (1874-1954) to the present.

By awarding the Rosa Schapire Art Prize, the Freunde der Kunsthalle advocates a luminous and unfettered interpretation of art. The prize shall honour an artist’s personality, whose piece of art qualifies as a valuable and vivid contribution to the collection of the traditional yet aspirational museum Hamburger Kunsthalle.

The Prize is endowed with 20.000 euros. Juror of the first edition of Rosa-Schapire- Art Prize 2016 is Prof. Kasper König.
